Grey 1979 FJ40
| May- 3- 2007 |
Frame is in final reassembly,
the tub after extensive rust removal at the seams we have incorporated the
welded areas with a copper weld through primer, then the parts
are carefully assembled and tackwelded on a table placing all
the sheet metal back on and verifying fitment during process.
once welded then comes the metal work after that we will
put in the media blast room remove the rest of the paint and
corrosion leaving a surface profile apply self etching
primer do the finish work then apply catalyzed
primer . you can see the amount of work gone into the body
alone this is one of the bigger factors in the cost

Starting the long arduous dissecting of the cruiser tub. Some are worse than others unfortunately they all have this lurking behind all the seams. You can see a little stain coming out of the seams, and bubbles in the rear sill panel around the roll bar mounts or seat reinforcements etc.etc. No sense in putting a nice paint job on and have the rust creep out.
The frame is back from powder coaters ready for reassembly. Complete rebuild of both front and rear axles new springs, shocks and bushings We'll get her back on her feet then it will be ready for the rebuilt balanced and blueprinted engine -- stay tuned.

The frame is back from the powder coaters. Dave is stripping down the axle for cleaning and painting, then he will proceed to rebuild both front and rear axles. As you can see it is a greasy, rusty mess to begin with. Nobody said it is easy!

A 1979 fj40 we are starting and is being torn down as I write, now this is one I personally like. A stock restoration all the way through not a half chev half toyota but a fj40 original and as usual the body has quite a lot of rust. I have found a good tub to replace with. We will still dissect the donor tub as we have done in the past for instance drilling out the spot welds derusting and rewelding back together. The next order of business is strip down to bare frame and send off to powder coaters and the engine goes off to Portland engine rebuilders. Did I mentioned they also balance the internals of the engine plus the fly wheel and pressure plate which makes a smooth engine stay tuned. This one has not been spoken for yet so if you want a real nice fj 40 call or email.
